Missing You (Lyric Video)

The song Missing You is for all those who are missing someone special in their lives. When you can’t be with the one(s) you love, the feeling of loss can permeate, like background radiation, through every experience, even the joyous ones. Separation can be painful – but without love where would we be.

This morning on my walk to work, thoughts of my wife Erika and our dog Bella filled my mind. We have a lot of animals at our house including chickens and fish, and it always hurts when any of them are sick. They are our family. Bella is slowly dying and there is a feeling of sadness that permeates our household as we watch her play out her fate (while still wagging her tail). As I walked, I started humming Missing You, thinking about how much I’ll miss Bella when she’s gone – and how sad it will make my beloved Erika. She and that dog are inseparable in such a beautiful way. I admire her deeply for the compassion she has for all living begins.

So, this morning I dedicate this song to you dear Erika. It was written before I knew you, but it will forever remind me of you whenever we’re apart. To love, long life and an open heart.

Dance with the Angels

Dance with the Angels was written about an earlier time in my life when I was going through a separation, and was mired down in depression. I’ve always had faith that no matter how bad life gets, beauty and grace always surrounds us, if we just stay open to the present moment. That’s what it means to dance with the angels. We dance with life, because we never know where the journey will take us. Over three years ago, I met my soulmate and we are now blissfully married. I have never been happier and more in love.

If we can remember that everything is impermanent, even our losses, we can stay in touch with what’s beautiful in life and remain open to the unexpected.

As Mary Oliver writes, “Doesn’t everything die at last, and too soon? Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”
